Clean Your Cooler In 10 Simple Steps
We recommend that you clean and sanitize your cooler every six to twelve months.
What you will need:
- Clean rubber gloves
- Lint free paper towels or cloth
- Clean container that can hold a gallon of water
- Small amount of un-scented household bleach
- A small cork or plug – if you have a hot/cold cooler
- Unplug your Cooler from the wall.
- Wash exterior of cooler with hot water and soap.
- Drain all water from the cooler, by removing the water bottle and draining all water in the reservoir thru the faucets.
- Remove the baffle from inside the cooler’s reservoir, and remove the water-guard/spill free top from the cooler. These can both be easily cleansed by dish soap and hot water.
(If you have a Hot & Cold Cooler, for these next steps, make sure you have blocked off the hot tank so no water will get in. We have corks we will provide you if you need one. The hot tank sanitizes itself, with the extreme heat, and allowing sanitizer in the tank will throw off the flavor of the water for days!)
- Prepare some sanitizer in a bucket, using one gallon of water and one teaspoon of unscented bleach. Be sure to use gloves, and let the sanitizer sit for a few minutes.
- Rinse the cooler thoroughly with fresh water, until all sanitizer is removed.
- Fill the reservoir with water, and drain through the cold faucet. Repeat this two or three times, to be sure all bleach is removed.
- Drain all water from the cooler, by removing the water bottle and draining all water in the reservoir thru the faucets.
- Remove cork from hot tank, and replace the baffle and water-guard/spill free top. Try water from faucet and make sure there is no chlorine taste.
- Plug back in, and allow 30 minutes for water to get hot and cold.
